Weight Management Service

Non-judgemental advice and treatment options

At Treboeth Pharmacy, we understand that managing your weight can be challenging and that everyone’s circumstances are different.

During your initial confidential consultation, our experienced pharmacists will discuss your goals, medical history, current medication and other relevant health information.

We will assess your circumstances and discuss the weight management approaches that may be appropriate for you.

This may include dietary changes, physical activity, behavioural support and, where clinically suitable, medical treatment.

Our pharmacist will explain the options available, including their potential benefits, limitations and relevant risks.

Where prescription treatment is appropriate, a prescribing decision will be made following an individual clinical assessment.

There is no obligation to proceed with treatment.

How to find out if you are eligible

Being overweight is common. According to the Welsh Government’s National Survey for Wales (2024–2025)*, approximately 62% of adults in Wales are overweight or living with obesity.

Living with obesity can increase the risk of developing health conditions, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers.

A commonly used measure to assess weight is body mass index (BMI). It is a calculation that uses your height and weight to help assess whether your weight may affect your health.

The easiest way to work out your BMI is to use the NHS calculator here.

BMI does not distinguish between muscle and body fat, and it may not accurately reflect individual health risks.

If your BMI is 30 or above, you may be eligible for certain weight management treatments. If your BMI is 27 or above but below 30, some treatment options may still be considered, particularly where certain weight-related health conditions are present. These may include pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease or obstructive sleep apnoea.

We can discuss these further with you during your initial confidential consultation.

Eligibility criteria vary between treatments. Your pharmacist will assess your individual circumstances and discuss which options, if any, may be clinically appropriate.

Eligibility for a consultation does not guarantee that prescription treatment will be suitable or prescribed.
