Treatment Information & Prices
Understanding prescription weight management treatments
At Treboeth Pharmacy, we provide information about prescription weight management treatments that may be considered following an individual clinical assessment.
Weight management may involve dietary changes, increased physical activity, behavioural support and, where clinically appropriate, prescription medication.
Not every treatment is suitable for every patient. Your pharmacist will consider your medical history, current medication, existing health conditions and other relevant factors when discussing your options.
Comparing prescription treatments
The following information explains some of the differences between treatments, including how they are administered and their commonly reported side effects.
How treatments are taken
| Treatment | Active ingredient | Administration |
|---|---|---|
| Mounjaro injection | Tirzepatide | Once-weekly injection under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. Can be administered with or without food. |
| Wegovy injection | Semaglutide | Once-weekly injection under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. Can be administered with or without food. |
| Wegovy tablets | Semaglutide | One tablet daily after fasting for at least 8 hours. Take with up to 120 mL of water, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines. |
| Foundayo tablets | Orforglipron | One tablet daily, swallowed whole. Can be taken with or without food. |
Treatment doses and any increases are determined by the prescribing clinician. Patients should follow the instructions supplied with their medication.

Important precautions
All prescription weight management medicines can cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them.
Digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation are commonly reported, particularly when starting treatment or increasing the dose.
Other important risks and precautions vary between medicines. These may include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, dehydration and low blood sugar when certain diabetes medicines are also used.
Severe, persistent abdominal pain requires urgent medical assessment.
Your prescribing clinician will review your medical history and existing medicines, discuss relevant precautions and assess whether prescription treatment is appropriate.
Patients should read the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with their medication and seek professional advice about concerning symptoms.
